What Are You Trying to Assess?  A Panel Discussion on Assessment Tools

Employers have a variety of assessment tools available to take a closer look at their staff.  Is the assessment you plan to use the appropriate tool? This panel discussion will highlight several popular tools (DiSC, Meyers-Briggs, Hogan Conflict Instrument, SUNY360 Leadership Skills Inventory, https://sunysail.org/suny360) and their most effective use in the workplace.  Panelists will have opportunities to compare and contrast different tools and share their best practices.

Attendees will:

  • Learn about the individual advantages of multiple assessment tools
  • Determine which assessment tool is most appropriate for what they are assessing

 

Elaine Angelo

ELAINE M. ANGELO

Elaine Angelo has 25 years of experience leading Human Resource and staff development initiatives in a variety of organizations, including Fortune 500, state agencies, non-profits, member associations and family-owned. She has developed and implemented programs that enhance employee engagement, promote internal advancement, build essential business and people skills, and recognize employee performance. Her experience with 13 mergers & acquisitions and 3 startup ventures positions her to understand the development needs of employees who are challenged by an ever-changing landscape.
Elaine is an expert facilitator who shares her talents at team building sessions, retreats, conference workshops, professional panels, and executive coaching consultations. Certified to facilitate Everything DiSC Workplace® and Caliper Profile/Caliper 360 Plus assessment tools, she consults with staff at all levels to provide insight to work styles and personality traits that build self awareness and the ability to manage situations to work effectively with those who may have different work styles or traits.  Elaine is a current member of Capital Region Human Resources Association (CRHRA), Hudson Mohawk
Association for Talent Development (HMATD), and is the recipient of the 2014 Training
Organization of the Year Award (HMATD) and the 2009 Trainer of the Year Award (HMASTD). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Ithaca College.

 

STEVE DERRICK

Steve has been with Vicarious Visions since 1999. Steve’s background had been primarily art with a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Utah and a follow up AAS from the Art Institute of Phoenix in computer animation. Steve worked in the film and commercial advertising field freelance doing storyboards for movies and commercials before transitioning to video games.  Starting as an artist and working his way up to Lead, Art Department Manager, Executive Group Manager, Chief of Staff and now Director of Organizational Development as part of our leadership team. Steve has a long history of performance management, coaching for success, organization and team development. In addition, Steve works with our legal and financial tracking with our corporate office. While an artist and a gamer at heart his passion has always been people and team development. His focus currently is leadership development and coaching with certifications in Situational Leadership II, DiSC, Crucial Conversation’s and Emotional Intelligence.

 

Carolyn Mattiske

Carolyn serves as the Assistant Director of the SUNY Academic & Innovative Leadership (SAIL) Institute, which aims to support higher education leaders through programming and services throughout SUNY and beyond. Prior to this she worked at the Research Foundation for SUNY as their Learning and Development Manager. Carolyn has served as a stand-up trainer and curriculum developer for the University at Albany’s Professional Development Program (PDP) specializing in food stamp and welfare fraud detection policy. In her L&D role at the RF, she was responsible for managing the training needs throughout the 17,000 person organization. She collaborated with subject matter experts to assist with the development of training plans and determination of appropriate training delivery methods, tools and technology solutions. She managed Learning Tuesdays, a monthly 90-minute live streaming webinar training series, as well as an enterprise-wide mentoring program and leadership academy.

Carolyn earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and minor in communications from the University at Albany. She earned a Master’s of Arts in Curriculum Development and Instructional Design also from the University at Albany in 2014. She currently serves as a board member and VP for Special Events for the Hudson-Mohawk Chapter of the Association for Talent Development. She is a busy working mom of two children, Owen and Evelyn. In her free time (Ha!) she enjoys skiing, practicing hot yoga, cooking and reading.

Schyler Houck, Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations, Saratoga Casino Hotel

Schyler Houck, SPHR SHRM-SCP has a BS in Marketing and Management from Siena College, an MBA from Union Graduate College and is certified as a Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR) through the HRCI.  Schyler is the Director of Human Resources at the Hilton Albany. His responsibilities include the oversight of all of the hotel’s employee and labor relations activities as well as providing operational support and guidance to the various departments.
